Solid performance from NIKI – passenger volume up by over 28% in 2009
Passenger volume up by over 28% in 2009
NIKI bucked the trend in the airline industry in 2009, with passenger numbers jumping by 28.6% to around 2.6 million. Growth rates were virtually identical in the scheduled and charter flight segments, despite the addition of several new scheduled destinations during the year. NIKI was the only major Vienna-based airline to post a rise in passenger volumes.
Reacting to the results, Niki Lauda said: “Hitting on the right strategy was the key to growth in year like 2009. We had the courage to expand, introduce new routes and raise frequencies – and were rewarded for our efforts. If we manage to continue offering travellers a reliable, quality product at reasonable prices, we can go from strength to strength despite the difficult operating environment.”
The NIKI fleet will expand to 17 aircraft in 2010. New routes from Vienna to Belgrade, Bucharest and Sofia will be launched on 1 February, followed on 26 March by new non-stop flights from the Austrian capital to Barcelona, Copenhagen and Nice. The tourist schedule will also see some additions, with Sardinia added to the list of destinations in summer 2010 (bi-weekly service to Olbia and weekly service to Cagliari). Tickets for these and NIKI’s existing routes are now available at www.flyniki.com.
