NIKI voted best low cost airline for 2009

There was a huge surprise this year when Niki Lauda lebestelowcost.jpgft all the other candidates on the tarmac.” Oliver Kühn, CEO of Reise & Preise

NIKI walked away with the Best Low Cost Airline category of this year’s Reise & Preise* Airline of the Year awards.

The awards are judged by frequent flyers, polled on the portal. The “flight checkers” are required to complete a questionnaire and hand out marks (stars) for the following criteria:

  • State of the aircraft cabins
  • Cleanliness of the toilets
  • On-board catering
  • Drinks service
  • Seating comfort
  • All-round service quality
  • Ground service
  • Value for money
  • Punctuality
  • Children’s service

An overall score is calculated from the individual assessments (number of stars).

NIKI came out top in nine of the ten categories for an overall mark of 4.51 out of 6.

The consistently high service quality on all NIKI flights played a large part in this success. This starts before take-off, with the options of ordering meals in advance, online check-in and seat reservations.

On board, NIKI continues to offer a wide choice of free newspapers and magazines, a Demel sandwich, non-alcoholic beverages and special children’s services.

And the revised topbonus mileage programme will offer frequent flyers additional benefits such as priority check-in and a security fast lane at selected airports from 1 April 2009 on. The bonus miles collected can be cashed in for free flights or upgrades anywhere in the world.

Discounts for children and groups, 20 kg of free baggage and attractive terms for sports equipment are also part of the package.

A delighted Niki Lauda said, “... and now we’ll work even harder!”
